THE ANSER STORY
When the idea for the ANSER putter
came to him, it came as inspiration often
does - in a flash. Perhaps thinking it would enlarge
the hole in future golfers' perceptions, Karsten sketched the design on the dust jacket of a 78 rpm record. Now he
had to come up with a name - Since it was the answer to a particularly vexing competitive problem, his wife Louise
suggested they name it "answer." Karsten liked the name, but felt it would be too |
long to fit on the putter. With a
deadline looming to get the design to the engraver's shop,
Louise then said, "Leave out the 'w'." Which is
what they did.
WE went on to
become
putter in golf with
more than 40 tournament
wins. In 1997, the ANSER continued
the tradition by being used by the
winners of the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. Signatures of the Series are its optimumline of sight, perimeter weighting,
cavity back design and low center of gravity.
It's no exaggeration to say that these and many other features have |
changed putting from a mysterious art form to a simpler, more reproducible
skill. Perhaps this is why the golf industry's winningest most popular putter model is also the most copied.
Since 1962, more than 1700 worldwide tour events, including 45 ave been won with --putters. To commemorate
each, we create two gold-plated putters. We give one to the champion. The other takes its place of honor in
Karsten's private gold putter vault. In 1997, we added more than 70 putters to the collection. |
